Super Healthy and Cleansing/Detoxing Smoothie Recipe a.k.a. Glowing Green Smoothie

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups water
1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped
3-4 stalks organic celery
1/2 head of a large bunch or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
optional:
1/3 bunch organic cilantro (stems okay)
1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems okay)
Directions:
Add the water and chopped head of romaine to the blender. Starting the blender at low speed, mix until smoothie. Gradually moving to higher speeds, add the celery, apple and pear. Add the cilantro and parsley, if you are choosing to add them. Add the banana and lemon juice last.• Try to drink at least 16-24 ounces a day, if not more! Stir before you drink!
• Feel free to mix your greens and fruits, as greens and fruits food combine well together (except for melons). Be sure to balance the light and darker greens, so for instance, if you want to add some kale, be sure to balance with the lighter green of celery.
• * If you are diabetic and prefer to cut out all high glycemic fruit, you can omit the banana. Otherwise, I suggest keeping it in, as it adds a nice consistency and taste.
• ** It is important to blend until all “chunks” are removed from the mixture. There are a lot of nutrients encased into the cell walls of the green plants, and these need to be ruptured so full nutrition is available upon consumption without much digestive work. If you don’t have a great blender, you may have to blend longer and the smoothie will get warm. In that case, be sure to make it the night before, so it will be nice and cool by breakfast time!

Radical, city-wide, transforming, supernatural movements are not about our innovative, nicely packaged strategies and slick nomenclature. Perhaps not even our publicly bold, loud proclamations or initiatives. They are quietly accomplished by loving people who plant, unseen seeds of revolution in the fertile soil of poverty, suffering, chaos. They regularly water this soil with their own blood. Death always precedes the true resurrection of a city.

God, how must I die today? Maybe it’s apologizing to those I’ve hurt or seeking human intersection beyond a digital screen. Maybe it means dying to material desires or my culture’s idea of success? Maybe it means cleaning that elderly’s person’s house down the street or buying a week’s worth of groceries for her? Perhaps I need to share our home with another family or a group of singles and really do “small groups” like it was meant to be done.

Maybe the boldness is not done in public today but in a quiet park in the city, one-on-one, prostrate before our God, alone with Him, basking in His luminous grace, grateful for the abundance in our lives, yet pleading for more miracles in our cities. It seems true miracles happened as a result of the Spirit’s initiative and as a result of humble, loving activists responding to His moves.

Our destination was Boise, Idaho. Upon arriving there, Luke has decided to spend an extra month serving the Create Common Good community focused upon refugees. Check Create Common Good out at http://createcommongood.org

He’ll also hang with our XEALOT Guide Brent Southcombe, Chef of the Nation Australia. He’s a leader I know Luke will love to learn from. He’ll also be with Tara Russell, business woman extraordinaire!

Well I just arrived home. Dropped Luke off and took a plane home. It was grueling but wildly fun. I’ll fly back and then ride with Luke home.

Here are the highlights so far:
1. Riding with my son
2. Eating with Luke, The boy can chow.
3. Watching him notice my idiosyncricies. Saw he noticed me getting tired. He knows my mannerisms.
4. The miracle trip where we somehow didn’t run out of gas completely. Thinking there would be a gas station in between destination points, soon discovered there were none available for about 190 miles. Somehow we made it on fumes. Luke’s one bar on the gas tank was blinking for about 30 miles. We slowed down to 35 mph, coasted when we could, backdrafted and prayed!

We somehow rolled into the gas station about 2am.

Then we went into town to discover out of the whole town, there was only one room available.

This part of the trip reminded me most of life. There are dark nights. Where you don’t feel you can make it. No more energy. Doubts abound. We saw wild, living creatures who could threaten us or we could enjoy. God is in control. He provided us with everything we needed. Then joy came in the morning. The food and the scenery was epic the next day.

As we looked back we saw the mountains we traveled through. Realized there was snow in them ol’ hills. At times we were freezing. Literally, i was shaking.

A very large fish eye.
